It was a regular college day and going out in lunch time to our so called “adda”, thadi,  for a tea is like a ritual which we practice daily. Four friends sitting and enjoying gossiping while having sip of tea. Suddenly a young guy with perfect formal dress-up came and asked if we could spare some time listening to him. Before we would reply in a yes or no, he started speaking. I guess, it is one of the lessons taught to marketing students.

He was a marketing person from a popular Hotel of Udaipur. He introduced himself and the hotel, and then continued with an interesting, mind blowing, superb offer.

It was a one year membership offer with loads of benefits to customers. At first, we wondered why would a marketing boy from some hotel explain it to college students ? But, later when he continued we thought he was doing it the right way at the right place but sadly in front of wrong people. Their  aim is to increase the sells, increase customers and increase ROI.

This guy introduced us to the offer where one can enjoy 2 bottles of beer, vodka or rum for price of 1 bottle. I am sorry, I don’t know much about what all kind of alcoholic drinks are available. But this offer was valid for everything that is served in their Beer Bar. They don’t call it buy 1 get 1 free. They say it, “If you buy 2 bottles of beer, we offer you 1 as complimentary.”

Now, you must have understood why he was at the right place. Though this scheme had many other benefits like, there was a 50% discount coupon for your lunch, dinner and drinks. There were discounts on your stay in hotel. But, he seemed to be least interested in telling about all these. Even the thadi owner got interested in his buy 1 get 1 free beer!

I don’t know why such offers are made to students. Increasing customers and sells is your job, do it the right way. Everyone knows students these days drink and party a lot. But, such offers will surely increase their addiction towards alcohol. This addiction increases their tendency of spending money even when they don’t have and eventually ruins their career. They stand nowhere after they pass out from their college.

There are people who want to try everything, good or bad, once in their school/college life. They believe all the fun and maza would end up after they get jobs and enter the corporate world. This “just for fun” way of living has made people suffer and is not good. But, some don’t want to understand and rest don’t try to understand.

Where are we heading to ? Lifestyle is changing at so fast pace. Now a days drinking and smoking has become common among school going students. They have a girl / boy friend who would always walk hand-in-hand with them to wherever they go. And one day, one of them would ditch/dump the other. All these things are very common these days.
