Tigers keep a balance between the prey animals and the forest vegetation.
In the absence of tigers, the other animal population will explode which in turn will disturb forests and human settlements.
Tigers are an extremely important part of the eco-system as the ecological balance would be so much affected in the absence of these magnificent wild beasts. Keeping this point in mind, India is planning to grow its tiger population by 35 percent to protect forests. This would also boost economy.
India has 75% of the world’s tigers. Tigers keep a balance between the prey animals and the forest vegetation. In the absence of tigers, the other animal population, the prey species, will explode which in turn will disturb forests and human settlements. This means that the tigers prey on the herbivores which eat away the vegetation and the end of the entire vegetation would disturb the environment to a great extent ultimately imbalancing the eco-system.
The plan of expanding the tiger community is aimed towards maintaining a balanced eco-system. The conservation of tigers would help save the forests to a great deal, the forests which provide bread and butter to many and also help in cleaning the atmosphere.
Last year, more than 300 tigers died. They were either hunted down or met with accidents while crossing the road in the attempt to get food and water. Since the numbers of tigers have decreased a lot, the prey species have been conveniently eating away the vegetation in forests and have also made their way towards the human settlements in order to find food. Rampant poaching of the tigers has to stop.
Tigers prey on the herbivores; this maintains the balance of nature. Since the tiger numbers have declined immensely, the herbivores have been disturbing the balance. Thus we need to have more tigers to maintain this ecological balance. One more important point to be noted is that if we need a good monsoon every year, we must preserve tigers as this is the only way we can save the rain-giving forests.
