Simple mosquito bite or sting from any insect can start dangerous phenomenon called Cellulitis.

Cellulitis is a sort of infection which spreads underneath the skin and can go unnoticed for some time before it shows up as a serious painful diffuse bruise with redness and blister formation.

If ignored, it can spread very rapidly and patients’ life can be in danger or gangrene can spread deep and results in loss of limb or amputation. This type of infection is usually caused by Staph, epidermidis and aureus type of bacteria along with other pathogenic bacteria like Pseudomonas and E. Coli.

Well known Cons. Orthopedics surgeon, Dr Saleh Mohd Kagzi, Saifee Burhani Fracture and Orthopedics Hospital, has warned that it is extremely important to take notice of these type of situations developing in elderly which can be evident by pain, redness and induration of skin, in leg and thigh area.

It is a very dangerous occurence if happens in thigh and around perineum. In order to halt the progress of infection, timely highly sensitive antibiotics and quick control of Diabetes is very important.

Some times, surgery is required to remove the pus and dead skin and soft tissues to stop the bacterial infection further and encourage healing, says Dr Saleh M. Kagzi.
