Mahindra Thar Set for a Major Makeover: New Look, Expected Features and Big Update Explained
UdaipurTimes, September 4, 2026 | Automobile Updates: Mahindra’s 3-door Thar is already a popular lifestyle SUV. This time, the SUV is expected to receive a major update. Recently, test models were spotted on the road with several exterior changes inspired by the Thar Roxx.
The updated model is expected to feature a newly designed grille, revised headlamps, a new front bumper and new alloy wheels. There could also be some changes to the rear design. Looking at the images of the test model, the shape of the rear lights and bumper may also be updated.
However, these are only expected changes based on the test model. The final production version could have different design elements when Mahindra officially launches the updated 3-door Thar.
What are the new features inside?
Along with the exterior changes, the Thar facelift may also see an increase in technological features in the cabin. The current 10.25-inch touchscreen system may remain, along with features like a fully digital driver information screen, ventilated seats and leatherette seat covers. There are also speculations of an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to enhance driver safety. However, specific features like a 540-degree camera or Level 2 ADAS have not been officially confirmed yet. So, these are being seen as possible features for now.
Will there be any major changes in the engine?
According to current information, the main focus of the Thar facelift will be on the exterior design of the car and the interior amenities. No major changes are expected in the engine. As a result, the current engine options and transmission system may remain. This suggests that Mahindra is trying to add more convenience for driving on city roads while maintaining the car's known off-road capabilities. However, this can be confirmed only when the final technical specifications are released.
BE.07: New electric SUV coming in 2027
The BE.07 is a very important model in Mahindra's future electric vehicle plans. Although it was initially expected to be launched in 2026, its launch date has now been pushed back to 2027. It will be a larger electric SUV than the BE 6. The BE.07 will be built on Mahindra's INGLO electric platform. It could have 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options.
Both rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive are likely to come. Given its larger size, it is not certain whether it will get the estimated 548 to 683 km range of the BE 6. After launch, the BE.07 will compete with electric SUVs like the Tata Harrier EV and VinFast VF7. Meanwhile, according to Mahindra's overall plan, 10 petrol-diesel engine models and 6 electric models will be launched in the market by 2031.
