[Movie Review] Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns: Solid Dialogues but abrupt Ending

Cast: Jimmy Shergil, Mahie Gill, Irfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan Director: Tigmanshu Dhulia Genre: Thriller, Drama Rating: 3/5 Movie Reviewed At: INOX Udaipur UT Movies

‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster’ in 2011 left audience crave for more. It was the movie’s grip which caught and brought people to watch ‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns’ today, but flatly speaking – it did not impress as much as its former edition did.

Tigmanshu Dhulia is a talented Director and that needs no second opinion, but what came out on screen was not enough to awe the audience. The potential of the movie can be easily calculated by acting prowess its star-cast – Jimmy Shergil, Irfan Khan, Mahie Gill, Soha Ali Khan, Raj Babbar and others who were also there in the first edition. Movie has many punches, witty humor, clever dialogues, characters and situations which will surely get you by surprise. The actors are all in their characters with Jimmy and Irfan putting up amazing performances.

But what did not work was the story, the grip of which loosened after first half and thereafter, it was a steep slope downwards.

Movie continues where it was left off in 2011 with Saheb (Jimmy) undergoing treatment for his injuries and Madhvi (Mahie) drinking her guts out. Ranjana (Soha) expands the frame as the element of disturbance between Saheb and Madhvi; and Indarjeet (Irfan) making his way strategizing to get hold on the love of her life – Ranjana and to exterminate Saheb.

To brief the story – It’s a tale of modern day Rajas and their prolonged conflicts wrapped in the foil of fury, love and betrayal. Jimmy and Irfan are an absolute treat to watch in the entire span with dialogues been written in a strong, witty style to suite their characters.

Soha had nothing much to do, but still proves her worth and Mahie, who acts drunk in 90% of the movie, was in-role showing her acting skills aptly portraying the shady Biwi as she needed to be with her lewd dialogue delivery and the clothes which kept dropping in a few scenes.

The basic ingredients are perfect for an amazing 145 minutes run, but the movie somewhere lacks in terms of execution in the second half.

The soundtrack is horribly below average and makes no sense, even with the item number of Mugdha Godse which was more of a pile-on rather than a necessity.

‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns’ is worthy for your bucks if you’ve seen and admired its former avatar in 2011 and like to watch Jimmy Shergil and Irfan Khan on screen, but you better not expect a jaw dropping climax.

Overall, it is not the best by Tigmanshu Dhulia, but given the pre-mentioned requisites that you should have before buying the ticket, it is not the one to be missed.
