Heard someone saying that Udaipur people are behind Indore people when it comes to eating. Do you think the same? Well, even if you do, I would still like to let you know that Udaipur people are also as much food lovers as Indore if you don’t go by the spread over of the city and of course, the population depends on the spread over. Am I right or am I right? We shouldn’t be comparing…we should simply follow our senses when it comes to eating.

Let us think of all the places that Udaipur has to offer for those who love to eat out. When you don’t wish to cook yet wish to eat at home, or maybe in the comforts of your car while watching ripples in the lake, or rain water splashing down your wind shield, or just sitting in a lush green area giving you the perfect smell of wet soil, take away centres are a great option. For vegetarian dishes, there are plenty of take away options but for the non-veg lovers, options are comparatively few.

There are some centres which provide real lip-smacking snacks and all of these are reasonably priced. They don’t create a hole in your pocket. These places remind you of those home cooked meals which have a mother’s love or the expertise of an old time family cook(really).  The aroma and the taste send your senses drooling. Let me pick out some a few of my favourite take-away centres for you. (I love cooking, but sometimes I still feel the need to eat out and whenever I do, these are fave centres)

Mann Chicken Corner – Under Sevashram Bridge

I came across a place a few years back when I had the urge to eat Amritsari fish tikka. I don’t remember where I had it first, but then word of mouth publicity always helps. After casually mentioning about my craving to a friend, I was taken to this place called Mann Chicken corner under the Sevashram Bridge. And blow it…I still eat Amritsari fish tikka from that place (very often). This is a proper take-away centre and has many more varieties and all so delicious that I would recommend this place to every non-veg lover. The dishes and snacks provide you a taste of home, yummy finger licking biryanis, fish fingers, egg rolls, mutton varieties and a lot more. For me the best part is that I simply call them up and this gentleman is good enough to keep things ready since standing there for me is a bit uncomfortable as the place is under the bridge and mostly men folk come there. So try this place, I can bet you will love it.

Ashoka Food Court(AFC), Shakti Nagar corner

Another food centre that also has a lot to offer when it comes to take-aways. Chicken fried rice with green chutney is my favourite from AFC. They pack it well enough and you can enjoy the delicious dish while driving without dropping a morsel. Chicken chilly, fish fry and chicken fry are my favourites. They also provide momos which are a hit among children.

Mizan, Paltan Masjid

Mizan right below Paltan Masjid at Chetak Circle spreads that wonderful aroma of tandoor around 4:30 p.m. and if you are a tandoori chicken lover, you should try the tandoori items they provide. You can ask them to make it spicy as per your requirement. Delicious…no doubt. Place your request, stand there and watch them cook it for you and feel your mouth watering as the smoke hits your nostrils…simply wow!!

Pick & Move, Udiapole

Oye Paaji!! You wouldn’t want to miss the chicken masala or the mutton masala they have. Perfect blend of spices with naan or roti are a treat for dinner if you have guests waiting at home. Try the Chicken malai tikka and your kids will ask for more.

Biryani House,Chetak circle

Chicken rolls, Dum gosht biryani are the ones I love from here. Try taking them home or to a friend for a surprise party and have fun munching.

These are the places that I have visited to provide the ultimate slurping sound to my tongue. And, yes, if you happen to go towards Jaisamand, do enjoy the variety of fried fish at the small dhabas on road sides(avoid May to August). You will carry home more than what you eat…after all sharing is loving.
