Call it a rare coincidence but after 66 years of Independence, Indians will relive each day of 1947 in the coming 2014. Both the years share exactly same calendar.

1st Jan 2014 falls on Wednesday and 31st Dec 2014 ends on the same day as it did in 1947. The year is attached with nostalgic sentiments for millions of Indians.

2014 will walk the same days on each date throughout the year as it did 66 years back. It was Friday, on 15th August 1947, when Jawaharlal Nehru, who became the first Prime Minister of India and raised the national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. Next year in 2014 too, the Independence Day will fall on Friday.

Although the calendar events may fall on same days, the Indian festivals will have separate celebration days since they differ each year because of being calculated on the basis of planetary motions and Hindu panchang.

Festivals such as Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Dushhera and Deepawali fell on 6th March, 31 August, 24th October and 12th November 1947 respectively whereas in 2014 these festivals will fall on 17th March, 10th August, 4th October and 24th October respectively.

Social scientists even try to strike resemblance in the political scenario comparing the event of winning Independence to the passing of Lokpal bill as a pre-step towards liberation from corruption ruling the nation.

Those were among the most intensely heroic days of his life when Gandhiji declared fast unto death for establishing communal harmony in the nation. This year Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare broke his nine-day fast shortly after Lok Sabha passed the Lokpal Bill on 19th December.
