Henna, the language of art, weaves tales in every stroke. It is both a medicine and fragrant, adorning every occasion with vibrant hues. From weddings to festivals, it intertwines souls through intricate patterns. Udaipur’s Tanvi Abbasi has emerged as a distinguished Henna (Mehendi) artist, adding a touch of her exquisite skills to countless hands. Her journey from a passionate child artist to a sought-after name in this industry is a result of her dedication and talent. Her firm name is "Asha Mehandi."
Tanvi's fascination with mehendi traces back to her childhood, ignited by a memorable encounter at an event featuring the iconic Falguni Pathak. Inspired, she decided to pursue a career in the art field.
Years of Training
Determined to hone her craft, Tanvi spent seven years working under a mentor. This period not only refined her skills but also introduced her to the people of Udaipur. Slowly but steadily, her reputation as a Henna artist began to blossom.
Hamari Sanson Mein Aaj Tak
Woh Heena Ki Khushbhoo Mehak Rahi Hai
Labon Pe Naghme Machal Rahe Hain
Nazar Se Masti Jhalak Rahi Hai.
(O’ even today within my breathes,
That sweet smell of henna is still lingering,
Upon the lips songs are way-warding,
And with mischief, the glances are twinkling.)
- Sweet Smell of Henna - Jamil Hussain
Tanvi Abbasi specializes in various types of henna designs, with a focus on Patli design, Heavy Arabic, Block design, Poetry design, Theme-based Henna, Mughlai design and Rajasthani design.
From Local Recognition to National Limelight
In 2015, Tanvi started appearing at NRI weddings. Her talent spoke volumes, attracting orders from notable celebrities. She adorned the hands of renowned personalities such as Smita Bansal from "Balika Vadhu," niece of film actor Chiranjeevi and actor Ram Charan and Allu Arjun's cousin Niharika Konidela and even applied henna at the weddings of Suresh Oberoi and Vivek Oberoi's family.
Tanvi's art expanded to include the likes of Aamir Khan's family, where she applied mehendi on the hands of Nupur Shikare and Amir Khan's ex-wives.
Udaipur's popularity as a wedding destination has been on the rise and Tanvi attributes much of her success to the city's fame. She expresses gratitude for the significant opportunities to showcase her talent in royal weddings and high-profile events.
Overcoming Challenges with Determination
Tanvi acknowledges the challenges encountered along her journey but emphasizes that her passion led her towards becoming a renowned artist in the field. Booking a year in advance is an example to her popularity, and the artist now takes 3-4 events a day, a remarkable leap from her earlier routine in which she used to take only 1 event a day. Previously, she led a team of 5 girls, but now she oversees a team of 25 girls.
