Udaisagar: It only gets prettier in winter

Udaisagar lake, 13 km east of Udaipur, was built by Maharana Udai Singh in 1565. The depth of the lake is 9 meters, length 4 km and it is 2.5 km wide. As per available facts, Maharana Udai Singh had constructed a dam on Bedach(बेड़च) river to provide proper supplies of water to his kingdom and Udaisagar lake was later developed as an outcome of this project. In the year 1573, history reveals that Maharana Pratap had refused the invitation of Man Singh to meet Akbar on the banks of Udaisagar lake which led to the battle of Haldighati in 1576.

Visiting Udaisagar lake in the winter season seems more wonderful as you can enjoy the heat of the sun while watching the flow of water. The place is full of trees which are home to a number of monkeys. The mountains covered with neem, mango, keekar and babool trees present a picturesque look, beautiful enough to be captured. The serenity of this area brings in people who prefer to spend moments of calm. The sound of water rushing down the dam is one thing that really captivates me. Be it any dam, the sound has always attracted me.

The only thing that troubled me on my visit to this lake was the filth spread around by visitors. Food packets, water bottles, tissue papers, poly bags stuck in the bushes create a very bad impression for the tourists coming in, especially the foreign tourists who would take back memories of a beautiful place turned into a garbage area. May good sense prevail on citizens.
