Dangal took 3 days to reach the Rs 100 Cr club. But it took 6 years from the start of the discussion about the movie to the final output. Given the craze that the movie has generated across the country, we felt it is also necessary to bring out certain facts and picture of the real heroes behind the movie – The Phogat family.
Geeta was approached by director Nitesh Tiwari after she won the Commonwealth games in 2010. Geeta and Babita, the female wrestlers on whom the movies is based said that the movie reveals 99% truth with 1% added to give masala.
It took 6 years to have the movie made but we enjoyed every moment of it, says Geeta Phogat. Geeta was the first Indian wrestler to win a Commonwealth Gold and also the first Indian female wrestler to make a representation in Olympics.What is not mentioned in the movie is that Babita Phogat also went on to win the Commonwealth games in 2014.
Geeta revealed that even the last scene where Aamir Khan was locked out was inspired from real life when her father was not allowed to enter the arena during the final bout.
While the two girls are basking in the new found glory, they say that they are still focused on their training because wrestling is what got them here. The sisters are now training hard with a goal of getting a medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
