'The Great Indian Safari' by Arefa Tehsin: A Journey through India's Wild Habitats

Sept 2, 2025 - Well-known naturalist and author Arefa Tehsin has released her new book The Great Indian Safari which is a fully illustrated book in colour. The book is a delightful journey into the heart of India’s wilderness, created especially for curious young readers targeting the age group 7 and above. It offers a journey through India’s diverse ecosystems — from forests and deserts to seas and mountains.

A book both entertaining and educational for the young reader, The Great Indian Safari has been published by Puffin (Penguin Random House).

Publisher Sohini Mitra describes Tehsin as a gifted author whose captivating and witty storytelling brings the wonders of Indian wildlife to life. “Bursting with colourful illustrations and jaw-dropping facts, this book promises not just knowledge, but a deeper appreciation for the natural world that surrounds us”, says Mitra.

Tehsin is the author of several fiction and non-fiction books and writes columns and articles for various dailies and magazines. She spent her childhood treading the jungles of Aravali with her naturalist father. As a child, she was often found trying to catch a snake or spin a yarn. She grew up to be a story-spinner and was appointed the honorary wildlife warden of Udaipur for a term.
