Adani Plans to Bid for 11 Airports up for Privatisation

Adani Airport Holdings plans major investment to expand terminals, runways and passenger facilities
 |

Dec 20, 2025 - The Adani Group aims to bid for all the 11 airports which the Central government plans to privatise and lease to private bidders. These may include airports such as Varanasi, Bhubaneswar and Amritsar. The Adani Group plans to place successful bids for most of these airports. GMR is also considered a strong contender for these projects.

The bid plan is part of Adani’s proposed expansion of its airport business through the Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL). The Group has already announced plans for investment of around Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030. This capital will be used to build new terminals, expand runways, modernise passenger facilities and enhance aviation services.

AAHL currently operates seven airports across India, including Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is at the core of Adani’s expansion strategy and is the first airport which has been developed by the Group from scratch. This airport will launch its commercial operations from December 25, 2025. An investment of Rs 20,000 crore has been made in the first phase, which will have the capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. In the second phase, an investment of Rs 30,000 crore is planned. By 2030, an Aero City will be developed at the airport at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore, featuring 20 hotels and a monorail.

The Centre has been pushing for construction of new airports to meet with the rising air traffic and aims to increase the number of airports in the country from the current 163 to 350-400 by 2047.
