Applying for an online Ration Card in India
Initial rashan card system was started at the time of World War Two (WWII) when different Governments used to ration out food due to its scarcity. The system, still followed in many parts of the world, is referred to as the Public Distribution System in India
According to a recent study, the small minority of people apply for ration cards online while most still prefer standing in queues at the ration card office for the application and to later submit their forms.

For individuals to receive food grains from the Government, they have to sign up for a ration card which can be done online for 75% of the states in India. State Government are working on improving their websites to add all their application form processes there to reduce the number of people heading to Government offices.
In North Goa itself, there are 66684 ration cards among families assisting 251817 families. While in South Goa there are 72951 cards that are used by 290736 people. India’s tiniest state has about 542553 people who are benefiting from the public distribution system just through the NSFA system; as for the Non-NSFA cards, there are a lot more. Goa has 197088 ration cards here which takes the total up to 337740 ration cards assisting 1311583 people.
