Food Vendors have been conducting business at Bambaiya Bazar for almost 3 generations, but now the administration wants to evacuate these shops from Bambaiya Bazar as per the orders of Divisional Commissioner, Subodh Agarwal on the issue of lake pollution.

Fathesagar is the prime place where the locals as well as tourists move freely and enjoy every bit of the lake. On the other hand, Pichola is totally surrounded by high profile Private Hotels.

Roshan lal Sahu, “Patron” of the Fatehsagar Business Association and ex councilor MCU, said that most people are disciplined when they take refreshments at Fatehsagar. But sometimes, some anti-social elements throw the remains of food items and plastic bottles in the lakes despite garbage bins being placed everywhere around the Lake.

He said that removing Bambaiya Bazar will not help the situation but it will only become worse as is the case with under-constructed “Vibhuti Park” which has now become a more likely ground of anti social elements who drink and do all kinds of illegal activities there.

He informed that “We are the third generation working here; the authorities are talking about moving us from here which is not good as we will lose our bread and butter. He said that even Chief Minister loves to sit here and take a cup of tea”.

Roshan lala Sahu said that we were removed from the road near old Boat stand in 1993 by the orders of Atul Kumar, the then Collector of Udaipur and shifted to a place near Moti Magri.

“Before 1993 we were paying rent to the Nagar Parishad but as we were shifted to the place near Moti Magri they asked us to pay rent to them. Since then & till March 2012, we were paying rent to the Moti Magri Committee and we have receipts for the same” said Sahu.

The rent which all the 29 shopkeepers were giving to the Moti Magri Committee since 1993 approximates to around Rs 2 crores. He said that they had also employed a sweeper on their own expenses for the cleanliness of Bambaiya Bazar and we appeal to all Udaipurites to help in saving the existence of Mumbaiya Bazaar.

The vendors have faxed the situation to the Chief Minister’s office too.
