In order to sweep out illegal child trafficking and migration for labor in the adjacent state of Gujarat, the Government of Rajasthan is soon introducing Bt Cotton production in the state, mainly in the southern Rajasthan mainly Udaipur region which has become center of migrating labor in last several years.
The government has already set a working on several measures of training for the farmers and tribal people of Kotra, Mavli, Jhadol, Kherwadar, Vallabhnagar and Salumber regions. The distribution of free certified seeds and proper training is the main part of the movement.
“Large numbers of tribal people are migrating to neighboring state for livelihood which has always remained a matter of great concern for us. By promoting Bt cotton which is a cash crop, we can not only check the migration but will also introduce a better opportunity for them to earn,” said Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister in a program on child labor.
“The competitive move by Rajasthan government might affect the Bt cotton production in Gujarat as many of the migrated laborers are returning back,” says the minister.
According to Mahendrajeet Singh Malwaiya, Rajasthan government has taken same measures as Gujarat has undertaken to produce Bt cotton.
