Trump’s Policy Shift Slowing Down EV Sales in US?
Aug 5, 2025 - Owing to the withdrawal of subsidies on electric vehicles by US President Donald Trump’s administration, their sales have slowed down in the US, says a report. Vehicles running on petrol, diesel and gas are now selling more than electric ones.
In the US, a rise in EV sales before the elimination of the tax credit at the end of Q3 followed by a sharp dip in demand in the final quarter of the year is likely, as per reports.
Former President Joe Biden’s administration had aimed for half of all new cars sold by 2030 to be electric. His government had offered a $7,500 subsidy per EV and also eased loan conditions.
According to research firm Cox Automotive, in the first half of the year, EV sales in the US grew by only 1.5%. However, 9.1 million EVs were sold globally, a 28% increase over last year.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra says that carmakers who ignore the rapidly growing EV market may not survive the next 10 years. In the long run, EV production will prove profitable, she added.
