Aug 8, 2025 - In Jaipur on Thursday, August 7, the price of pure gold rose by Rs 200 to reach a new record of Rs 1,03,500 per 10 grams, while jewellery-grade gold (22 carat) reached Rs 96,500 per 10 grams. On April 22, gold crossed Rs 1 lakh for the first time.

On the MCX, gold crossed the Rs 1.02 lakh/10 gm mark to climb to a high of Rs 1,02,155.

The surge above Rs 1 lakh is driven by geopolitical tensions, a weakening rupee, escalation of US tariffs and global uncertainties. Over the years, gold has become a perfect hedge against inflation and investors have begun to look at it as a safe haven.

So far this year, 24-carat jewellery gold has become Rs 25,200 (over 32%) more expensive, and 22-carat jewellery gold has increased by Rs 23,300 (around 31.50%).

On December 31, 2024, pure gold was priced at Rs 78,300, and jewellery gold at Rs 73,100 per 10 grams.
