UPI Down; GPay, Paytm, PhonePe Hit by Outage
Today's Unified Payments Interface disruption is the third time this month; NPCI says working to resolve the issue

April 12, 2025 – UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is facing another disruption, the third time this month. Users this morning reported failed payments as Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay were not working. Social media was flooded with complaints as affected users across various platforms struggled to make smooth money transfers. One user commented, “UPI is down… Please carry your wallet”. Another complained, “At least there should be prior intimation sent in case of planned outage. So we can plan accordingly.”
At least 1,168 complaints had been logged by this afternoon on Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service issues. Data showed service failures involving State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank as well as Google Pay.
Meanwhile, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued an official statement on X about the transaction issues: "NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused."
