Want to Earn ₹6,000 Per Month? Invest in This Post Office Scheme in Your Daughter’s Name

UdaipurTimes, Aug 9, 2026 | Post Office Investments: In India, many people are now shifting from FD and RD schemes to the post office's risk-free investment options. These investments are certainly very convenient for all classes of people. The post office introduced several schemes for every age of Indian people. Among them, the post office runs several small savings schemes to help and ensure women's financial security in the future. Investment in these schemes is considered safe because they are guaranteed by the central government.

Investment in Daughter's Name

If you are planning an investment for your daughter, where the capital will be protected, and a fixed income will also be available every month, then the Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (POMIS) can be a good option. At the moment, this scheme is offering 7.4 percent interest. One of the biggest advantages of this scheme is that once you invest money, you get regular interest every month. You can start investing in this scheme with just 1,000 rupees, and the scheme has a tenure of 5 years.

How To Invest?

A maximum of 9 lakh rupees can be deposited in a single account and a maximum of 15 lakh rupees in a joint account. A person can open more than one account, but the total investment cannot exceed the mentioned limit. Suppose a person invests Rs 5 lakh, then at the current annual interest rate of 7.4%, he will get about Rs 37,000 in interest per year. That is, about Rs 3,083 will be deposited in his account every month.

Who Can Open an Account?

Only citizens of India who are residents of this scheme can open an account. An adult can open a single account in his own name.

A maximum of three adults can open a joint account. Parents or legal guardians can open an account in the name of a minor child. An authorised guardian on behalf of a mentally ill person can also open an account. A minor aged 10 years or above can operate the account in his own name.

The lock-in period of this scheme is 5 years. However, if necessary, the account can be closed before maturity under certain conditions. The rules are:

  1. Money cannot be withdrawn before one year of opening the account.
  2. If the account is closed after the completion of one year but within three years, 2% of the deposit will be deducted.
  3. If the account is closed after three years but before the completion of five years, 1% will be deducted.

Every month, the interest money is sent to the bank account through the Post Office Savings Account or ECS. However, if the interest money is not withdrawn in any month, no additional interest is paid on that money

Understand the Calculation

Suppose you invest Rs 10 lakh in the Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (POMIS). At the current annual interest rate of 7.4%, you will get an interest of about Rs 74,000 per year. That is, about Rs 6,167 will be deposited in your account every month. The tenure of this scheme is 5 years. At the end of the tenure, your entire capital of Rs 10 lakh will be returned. And you can use the interest money received every month for regular household expenses, your daughter's education or other necessary work. On the other hand, if someone invests Rs 5 lakh, then at the current interest rate, you will get an income of about Rs 3,083 per month. After five years, the entire capital will also be returned.

Why Is It Important For Girls?

This scheme is quite suitable for parents who want to make an investment in their daughter's name, from which they can get a guaranteed income every month. The interest earned every month can be used for the daughter's education, coaching, buying books or other educational expenses. Besides, the entire capital is returned after five years, which can be used for higher education or any major financial need in the future. For families who want a safe investment without risk as well as a guaranteed monthly income, the Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (POMIS) can be an attractive option.
