Hindustan Zinc Signs Rs 85 Cr MoU to Develop Govardhan Heritage Corridor
Udaipur, Sept 10, 2025 – In a significant step toward heritage conservation in Rajasthan, Vedanta Group's Hindustan Zinc Limited — India’s largest and only integrated producer of zinc, lead, and silver — signed an MoU with the Rajasthan Heritage Authority on Wednesday, Sept 10. The agreement, valid for three years, involves a Rs 85 crore CSR investment for the development of a Heritage Corridor at Poonchri ka Lotha in Deeg.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Omkar Singh Lakhawat, Chairman of the Rajasthan Heritage Authority, by Ramratan, CEO of the Authority, and Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited. Also present were Anupam Nidhi, Head CSR, Vedanta Group and Hindustan Zinc, Kishore S., COO, Hindustan Zinc, Saurav Dinda, Head Corporate Affairs, along with other dignitaries.
Purpose of the MoU
The initiative aims to revive and develop historic heritage sites by enhancing spiritual and cultural infrastructure. Planned developments under the CSR initiative include:
- A botanical garden
- Upgraded Parikrama Path (circumambulatory route)
- Pilgrim amenities and facilities for safe access
The site, Poonchri ka Lotha, holds immense religious and cultural significance as it is considered the tail end of the sacred Govardhan Hill, a key spiritual point in the Braj cultural landscape and an important stop on the Govardhan Parikrama pilgrimage. The project will contribute to preserving the sacred site, ensuring safe pilgrim access and boosting local livelihoods.
Chairman Lakhawat said: “Rajasthan has taken up the vital responsibility of developing India’s most treasured cultural and historical sites. Preserving them for future generations is our duty. Hindustan Zinc’s support will help us transform Poonchri ka Lotha into a vibrant cultural and spiritual corridor, protecting heritage while enhancing the pilgrim and tourist experience. This partnership is a strong example of how industry and government can work together to promote heritage and tourism.”
CEO Arun Misra said: “Heritage connects communities to their roots and reinforces identity.
