A hidden talent pool till sometime back, the Technology revolution has hit Udaipur big time, with entrepreneurs putting their heads together, and their guts under their belt to explore the world of technology services.
Udaipur, known globally for its royal weddings, palaces, lakes, gardens, marble, soapstone, handicraft and such core stuff, is now suddenly on the technology space and making its presence felt, not just in the plain vanilla web site and software development business, but in more state of the art IT related stuff including high end digital marketing, artificial intelligence, value added Business Process Outsourcing, Knowledge Process Outsourcing, nano technology, robotics, IoT, etc. you name it.
Radio City took the initiative of introducing this hidden talent aspect of Udaipur today, on National Technology Day, and took on board Ravi Soni, who has done his engineering from IIT Delhi, worked for the likes of Flipkart and chose to setup shop in the valley of lakes and explore the world of digital marketing and technology business, with his ebullient team shored up in Udaipur. Obbserv was founded in Udaipur and now has its presence in New Delhi and San Francisco, offering new tech digital marketing and online presence solutions to its clients in India and abroad. Ravi of Obbserv in a conversation with RJ Suri of Radio City (both share the passion for Udaipur as both have chosen to move back to their home town and make it happen here):
Radio City: How well should one want to know Udaipur in relation to technology. Technology ka rishta udaipur ke saath kya hai?
Obbserv: (Listen to Audio)
Technology business is a hidden dimension of Udaipur, whose relation with Technology started more than a decade ago, when like in India, Udaipur too entered the Technology business with the BPO/KPO industry. Today more than 10 companies offer such services to overseas clients in US, UK, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. These operations are managed by around 7000 employees who offer state of the art solutions to unique problems faced by their clients, using Artificial intelligence. The ecology is developing, with the approximately 10 colleges offering technology education tying up with training organisations like IBM and mentoring forums like TiE in ensuring proper skill development and career options.
Radio City: Speaking of Technology in Udaipur, what sort of work and what level is being addressed by the tech companies in Udaipur
Obbserv: (Listen to Audio)
Commendable work is being done by the tech companies operating out of Udaipur. Two tech companies (with their developed products) were sold recently for over a million US dollars. Both were from Udaipur. Clients of a some bigger companies operating in Udaipur include, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, IIM-Ahmedabad, World Bank and such. There is no technology of repute, which is not being used or catered to, by the Udaipur tech companies – be it IoT, Artificial Intelligence. Right now is the Right time to come back to Udaipur.
Radio City: something more on the work done by these companies?
Obbserv: (Listen to Audio)
World Bank is a client of Obbserv. A project for this client was undertaken successfully by Obbserv, which included its complete branding and digital promotion. The entire team is from Udaipur to the core….born, brought up and educated in Udaipur. A unique tech tool was also developed for the parent company of Kaun Banega Crorepati, which has been another achievement for Udaipur tech companies. The companies who sold their products, were developed on AWS and Microsoft technologies.
Radio City: Is the presence of these technology companies adding value to Udaipur?
Obbserv: (Listen to Audio)
But of course…in the last year, major projects have been done by the Udaipur administration using the Action Udaipur app. The Action Udaipur model and initial framework, was the brain child and developed by Udaipur based Advaiya Solutions. The Udaipurwala group on Facebook is another example, where people communicate effectively on this group. To empower the Smart city of Udaipur, the use of technology developed by Udaipur itself will go a long way. Learning environment, professional growth, work life balance, a good pay package will ensure that students and professionals will not need to look elsewhere for their careers.
