Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara Makes History as India’s First Global EV With 5-Star Safety Rating

The biggest highlight of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is its high safety rating at Bharat NCAP
 |

Uaipur, Dec 22, 2025: Electric cars are becoming the big story in India and Maruti Suzuki has now entered this space in a major way. The company has finally entered the EV segment with the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. This SUV has become India’s first global electric vehicle to score a full 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP. This is a huge achievement for any car, especially in this era of car buyers becoming increasingly safety-conscious. Also, this shows that Maruti Suzuki is now serious about offering cars that are not only efficient but also safe.

e-Vitara Sets Benchmark by Achieving 5-Star Adult & Child Safety Ratings

The biggest highlight of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is its high safety rating at Bharat NCAP. Scoring 5 stars in both adult and child safety categories, the new electric SUV has shot to fame. It may be noted that the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) is a government-backed safety rating system. This system judges a car's crashworthiness through crash tests. It covers both adult occupant protection (AOP) and child occupant protection (COP). The program assigns a star rating from one to five stars based on the performance in these crash tests.

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP):

The e-Vitara has scored 31.49/32 in the Adult Occupant Protection category. This clearly shows that the SUV has a strong body shell. Maruti Suzuki cars has used high-strength steel to ensure this performance. The overall structure is designed to absorb impact effectively.

Child Occupant Protection (COP):

In Child Occupant Protection, the SUV has scored 43/49. Again, this is a very impressive number. It means the car is engineered to protect even the young passengers. What’s even better is that even the base model of the e-Vitara comes with:

  • 7 airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ISOFIX child-seat mounts
  • Seatbelt reminders and load limiters

This is a major shift in Maruti Suzuki’s approach. We say this as the brand was earlier seen as focusing more on affordability than safety. With the e-Vitara, safety has become the biggest priority.

Bharat NCAP Score Summary Table

The safety rating of Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara highlights the SUV’s great crashworthiness. In fact, the Bharat NCAP results are better than the vehicle’s 4-star score at Euro NCAP. With this, the new model becomes the fourth Maruti Suzuki model to join the 5-star club. Other Maruti cars with top NCAP scores include Dzire, Victoris, and Invicto.

Role of Advanced Platform in Top NCAP Score of Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara

The new Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is underpinned by the HEARTECT-e platform. The EV-specific platform has made its debut with the company’s first-ever electric offering. Unlike typical ICE-to-EV conversions, this platform has been developed from scratch to support the carmaker’s lineup of new-age electric vehicles. The advanced construction of the underbody shield and reinforced frame helps the vehicle reduce side impacts. On the other hand, the front crumple zones effectively mitigate frontal crash forces.

The new-age architecture is compatible with dual battery options. In the case of e-Vitara, the brand offers 49 kWh and 61 kWh options, with a maximum claimed range of over 530 km. The robustness of this platform is confirmed by the brand’s internal tests and NCAP. e-HEARTECT successfully protects the battery in the event of a crash, thereby reducing the chances of explosion from an impact. With this electric SUV set to be exported to various right-hand drive markets, the Bharat NCAP score boosts the EV’s credibility.

Key Takeaways

The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara represents a major shift, not only for Maruti Suzuki but also for the Indian EV market. It combines a long driving range, advanced technology, premium features, and top-notch safety. And that’s something we don’t usually see together at this price point. With the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki is showing that electric cars in India can be safe, practical, and suitable for everyday family use. This SUV has the potential to attract a wide range of buyers and may even push other brands to improve their EV offerings.

Overall, the e-Vitara sets a fresh benchmark for what an electric SUV in India should offer, and it could very well become one of the most important EV launches in the coming years.
