Supreme court had issued a ruling banning sales of Bharat Stage 3 (BS-3) compliant vehicles from April 1, 2017. As a result of that Thursday saw massive discounts ranging upto Rs 1.5 Lakhs at various dealers in Udaipur. The discounts are expected to continue today with 31 Mar being the last day for selling BS-3 compliant vehicles.

Massive crowds gathered to pick up the vehicles at discounted prices. In some cases police had also to be brought in to get the crowd under control.

As per details received from automobile dealers, massive discounts are being doled out to get rid of the stock current that they are holding. Discounts being doled out on various models include: Honda Activa (Rs 15000), Honda Motorcycle (Rs 20000), TVS Jupiter(Rs 10000), TVS Scooty (Rs 7500), Hero Duet and Hero Maestro(Rs 14000), Hero Motorcycle(Rs 15000), Royal Enfield(Rs 10000), Super Bikes (Rs 1,50,000), Mahindra Bolero (Rs 70000), Thar(Rs 50000).

Supreme court ruling will not have any effect on the existing vehicles. Bharat Stage compliance deals with the emission norms for engines and is intended to keep pollution under control.
