Udaipur has been identified as one of the 49 ‘metropolitan clusters’ that could be at the centre of growth in India.
In its report titled, ‘India’s economic geography in 2025: States, Clusters and Cities’, Mckinsey has identified these 49 clusters that it expects to contribute about 77 percent of India’s incremental GDP from 2012-25.
Metropolitan cluster is a group of contiguous districts with high economic potential and having a metropolitan district at its nucleus.
Report identifies 4 clusters in ‘very High Performing States’ ( Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa, Puducherry), 16 in High Performing States, 17 in performing States and 12 in low performing States.
Udaipur fall in the 17 clusters in performing state. Jaipur and Bikaner are the other districts in Rajasthan that have been identified as potential growth hotspots.
