Lumia is the first cell phone designed from the Nokia-Microsoft tie up, it was globally launched in October. The new product is expected to boost the highly competitive market of smartphones and Nokia will try its best to hold the losing grip in booming Indian market with the launch of this model.
While Udaipur and rest of the Indian cities had kept their business close in order to protest against the FDI, Nokia India Managing Director, D Shivakumar has certainly not agreed to the rising threat for Indian retail market due to foreign investment.
He said that the multinational retailers will not kill Indian Kirana Stores because of its convenience factor.
While quoting to a prestigious national news paper, D Shivakumar said, “Indian mom and pop stores (Kirana) are extremely efficient compared to Western ones; I don’t think organized retail chains can ever exterminate these traditional kiranas.”
The conference in Udaipur was held very privately without inviting any local media, according to few sources, not even the head of Nokia in Rajasthan was invited to the summit. Local dealers and managers of Nokia priority have no confirmation about the summit.
We tried to contact Nokia’s Gurgaon office but could not reach any reliable person who could provide some profound information on the subject.
