Shein app returns india

Udaipur, February 3, 2025 - Shein, the popular fast fashion company, has been re-launched in India nearly five years after it was banned in 2020. The new app, developed and managed by Reliance Retail, is now available on Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Reports suggest that Shein may also manufacture its products in India and export them to other countries. This move likely helped Shein get regulatory approval for its re-entry into the Indian market.

Why Shein Was Banned?

Shein was banned in India in 2020 along with 58 other Chinese apps, including TikTok, PUBG, and WeChat. The Indian government banned these apps due to concerns over data security and the privacy of citizens. The Ministry of Electronics and IT had stated that these apps posed a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity. Due to this, Shein and several other Chinese apps were removed from the Indian market.

Shein’s Presence Despite Ban

Even after the ban, Shein products were available in India through e-commerce platforms like Amazon. However, the company could not operate officially in the country. Now, Shein has made a comeback in its full capacity. The company assured Indian authorities that it would source goods from India for its global operations.

Shein’s Global Plans

The company is also planning a $6.6 billion IPO (Initial Public Offering) in London, which could help it expand further worldwide.

Shein’s re-entry into India marks a new beginning for the fast fashion giant, with a different approach to business and operations.
