District Industrial Centre (DIC), a State Government undertaking has organized a Shilp Mela at Grameen Haat in the Sub-City Centre, Sector 9. The fair has accommodated 50 various small scale handicraft and cottage industry entrepreneurs who will put up their goods for sale till the 9
th of December. The Shilp Mela was formally inaugurated by Shweta Fareliya, Deputy Director, CICDS earlier this evening. 55 Shops in all have been put up for the visitors to take their pick(s), of which 50 are booked by manufacturers, entrepreneurs and individuals involved in various types of handmade goods.
Among the 50 merchandise shops, one can find handmade Sarees, dress material, Handloom quality goods at competitive prizes. According to J.P Gupta, Fair Co-ordinator, Grameen Haat is in operation from 2004, where a weekly fair is organized by DIC every alternate month with the sole motto of promoting local craft and cottage industries. An open fair for the craftsmen of India is also held twice a year in which craftsmen from any part of India can participate. He also informed that each shop is rented out for the event at a nominal payment of Rs. 2000 each for entrepreneurs and Rs. 500 per shop for BPL individuals for the week, while in the bi-monthly fair it is sold at a minimum price of Rs. 100/- per day.
