N Chandrasekaran Will Not Offer Himself For Reappointment as Chairman of Tata Sons in February 2027

UdaipurTimes, Business News | August 12, 2026: N Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of Tata Sons has confirmed that he will not be offering himself for reappointment as Chairman, when his tenure as Chairman ends on February 20, 2027.

As per his statement, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust unanimously resolved and recommended the extension of Chandrasekaran/s tenure for a period of 5 years from the scheduled date of February 20, 2027. The resolution was tabled in the Board Meeting after it was recorded and recommended by the Tata Sons Nomination and Remuneration Committee on February 24, 2026. However, one Board member, viz. Chairman of Tata Trusts, chose to oppose the move, causing Tata Sons, which controls more than 30 Tata companies, to postpone the decision on the reappointment.

In his statement, Chandrasekaran mentioned that since the support on his reappointment was not unanimous and after six months of tabling the resolution, the unanimous decision has still not been reached, it will affect clarity for employees, investors, partners and other related stakeholders. He added that the group is an extremely large institution, with many strategic projects under execution. This, he added, needs for the group to have a leader in place beyond February 2027. Accordingly, to facilitate clarity and steer the board to come at a decision regarding the next Chair at Tata Sons, Chandrasekaran has confirmed that he will not be available for reappointment post February 2027.
