Tell your Story Business Intelligence Hackathon at Advaiya
Power BI Hackathon “Tell Your Story” organized by Advaiya at its Udaipur office concluded on Thursday, 5th October. The hackathon produced some fascinating stories backed by compelling data. Guided by domain experts Vikram Jain, Director of Professional Services and Swati Shrimali, Solutions Architect and CoE Lead at Advaiya, the teams progressed through various stages beginning from story synopsis to publishing the dashboards, using freely available public datasets and diverse set of technologies including PowerBI and SQLServer
Recently Advaiya conducted BI Hackathon – Tell Your Story for its employees to understand and learn new skills related to data identification, analysis and telling a story from data alone. Microsoft Power BI was used as a visual representation tool.
Power BI Hackathon “Tell Your Story” organized by Advaiya at its Udaipur office concluded on Thursday, 5th October. The hackathon produced some fascinating stories backed by compelling data. Guided by domain experts Vikram Jain, Director of Professional Services and Swati Shrimali, Solutions Architect and CoE Lead at Advaiya, the teams progressed through various stages beginning from story synopsis to publishing the dashboards, using freely available public datasets and diverse set of technologies including PowerBI and SQLServer.
In a one of its kind event, over 40 professionals belonging to diverse streams viz. HR, Marketing, Sales and Technology, spread into ten teams. Seven teams made it to the finals.
Interestingly for most of them this was a firsthand experience to identify relevant data, create a story and learning technologies like #Power BI on the fly
Young professionals were taken on a four-phase journey of data-discovery and story creation. They were tested for data modeling, Power BI skills, analytical and logical thinking, insightfulness, creativity, data visualization and storytelling. In the final phase, shortlisted teams had a one-on-one presentation with Advaiya’s high-powered C level executive jury who selected the winners.
The winning story was The Rise of Singledom by Shivani Jain, Preksha Jain and Shaheen Bohra (L-R). The runner-up story was The State of Global Terrorism.
Advaiya CEO Manish Godha emphasized on the significance of critical thinking. He said, “Critical thinking is about the ability to make evidence-based decisions. We inculcate the habit of problem-solving in our employees by training them in thinking with data and applying statistics and probability. Another important thing is that we can improve our critical thinking with practice and patience.”
