After being closed for nearly 7 months, Tehkhana Restaurant is re-opened now in a brand new look with array of luxuries. Call it a second edition or an absolute restoration but this famed restro-bar has come up from its toughest era since its unfortunate shut down in October 2010.

The only underground restaurant & bar in Udaipur, Tehkhana announced its comeback in month of May this year. The interior, food, price and even concept of the restaurant is changed, from a gaudy appearance to soberly designed vicinity.

The Return of Tehkhana Restro-Bar

Tehkhana has three separate areas for dinning, bar and dance-floor. All three has inter-connection with each other but a separate entrance gives privacy. However, the lobby is the only main and common gateway to the restaurant.

The good thing about this is you have privacy as everything is available in a different area, eat, drink or dance but another good point is you have to pass through a common passage. “Earlier, we were facing big problem as dance floor and bar were all separate from the main entrance”, explains Vicky.

The Return of Tehkhana Restro-Bar“Though, at present the food menu consists of Indian (veg and non-veg) delights. We are going to apply daily or weekly themes in a short time where we’ll also introduce diverse varieties of recipes; we are going to serve some exclusive recipes as complimentary. These plain white walls will also change according to a specific theme.”, said Vicky Rao- the chief operating officer.

(Vicky) Ranjeet Singh Rao with three of his partners Ajit Singh Rao, Mahesh Sukhwal and Deepika Swami founded Tehkhana in Oct 15, 2009, the opening was grand and the concept was totally new. Tehkhana became famous in a short span but a weird obstacle was waiting in the way of this newly opened food destination of Udaipur.

Soon after the end of 2010’s rainy season, underground water started coming out, spreading all over the restaurant. The problem became worst when the attempt of stopping the leakage failed and unknowingly more leakage started due to damaged underground water pipeline.

Vicky and his team struggled hard to get rid of the water; they even tried to make this setback a naturally arisen idea of a ‘water theme’. “I made few of my guests sit in a wet restaurant, they liked it but indeed the concept failed.”

“We finally decided to shut it down and vacant it on October 15, 2010. We’ve done complete renovation and made a final solution of underground water. Now there is no problem at all.” Says Vicky confidently.

This time they have introduced weekly parties and dance floor to be open for common people in weekends, couple entry for dance floor would be totally free of cost, though stags are not allowed.

A big 5 feet graphical collage in the entrance describes the journey of Tehkhana, its best and worst moments in past and now a rocking comeback with ample of opportunities.

The Return of Tehkhana Restro-Bar

Tehkhana is the idea of Vicky, who once visited an underground restaurant in Rome, it was 10 meters inside the ground and the only way to get in was through lift. I thought to make something similar in Udaipur too.

Tehkhana Restro-Bar is another pearl added to the conceptualized restaurants of Udaipur, get underground to get rid of busy lifestyle; Tehkhana will cage your worries and serve you relaxation.

Tehkhana is situated at Hitawala Complex, Saheli Marg.
