“Government is neglecting the city of Udaipur which is known to be one of the best tourist destinations of the world. State government is not taking any initiative to promote tourism in Udaipur which has decreased the number of tourists in Udaipur”, says Manish Galundia, a Hotelier.

Explaining the present scenario, Galundia said that business coming from tourists is constantly deteriorating and hotel industry is one of them. He said, “In comparison to the last year, this year, hotel industry of Udaipur has faced 30 percent loss.”

Being known as City of Lakes, there are no water activities in the lakes. The popular tourist destination of Fatehsagar Lake is its Paal which is now closed by installing gates; this has reduced number of tourists visiting Paal.

Suggesting government with some ideas, Manish Galundia said that there should be regular program of folk dance at Fateh Sagar Paal. Gulab Bagh should have Flower Show like the Mughal Garden in Delhi, Trekking and Para Gliding should be introduced and hot air balloon should start again.

Galundia informed that, there are around 400 hotels in Udaipur which have nearly 12000 rooms. In the next two years, 50 more hotels are expected to start. At present, 10000 hotel rooms are lying unoccupied.

On top of this, government has slapped number of taxes on hotel industry. 12.36% service tax, 10% luxury tax, 12.36% tax on food, 5 and 15% VAT on food, Income Tax.

Udaipur generally gets around 20 percent of foreign tourist but at present there are only 5 percent.
