Dec 30, 2025 - Warren Buffett, the iconic American investor and philanthropist considered by many to be one of the most successful investors in history, will retire as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway on Wednesday (December 31). When the 95-year-old hangs up his boots tomorrow, he will be capping an incredible 60-year tenure at the top of the business that he turned from a struggling textile company into a multinational conglomerate. December 31 will be closing the chapter to one of the longest and most consequential tenures in modern corporate history.
Known as the “Oracleo of Omaha”, Buffett first shocked shareholders on May 2025 when he announced his decision to resign as CEO, suggesting long-time vice-chairman Greg Abel as his replacement. Buffett will, however, remain Chairman and a major shareholder of the company and continue to contribute with his insight and experience.
What began as a failing textile company, Berkshire Hathaway under his leadership, became a powerful conglomerate with vast holdings spanning insurance, railroads, energy and manufacturing. It made forays acquiring big equity stakes into major brands such as Coca-Cola, Apple, Duracell, Dairy Queen, American Express and Geico. Instead of following market hype or seeking fast returns, Buffett focused on purchasing high-quality companies with reliable profits, trustworthy leadership and strong long-term prospects. This disciplined approach of his was strongly shaped by the teachings of his mentor and the “Father of Value Investing” Benjamin Graham.
Outside of finance, Buffett is highly respected for his integrity and commitment to giving back. He has promised to donate more than 99% of his fortune to charitable causes. In 2010, he helped Bill Gates launch the Giving Pledge, encouraging other wealthy individuals to do the same.
Buffett’s retirement marks the close of an era in American business. But his legacy will continue to influence investors around the world for generations to come.
