Giving out information on the occasion, Dr Mehta said that Hepatitis is a viral disease and is also referred to as jaundice. Hepatitis virus, if not cured, can lead to Fibrosis and Liver cancer. Hepatitis B and C happen as a result of infected blood transfusion, needle insertion, unprotected sex and from an infected mother to a child.

Dr Mehta said that to avoid Hepatitis infection, one should maintain cleanliness of body parts, washing hands with soap post urinating and defecation, eating fruits and vegetables after washing etc. Further, every expecting mother should get herself tested for Hepatitis and the child needs to be vaccinated irrespective of the results being positive or negative.
