Rules for adopting a child have now become strict.
Adoption is a legal process in which someone is legally allowed to become parent of a child even though they are not related by blood.
Child Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) CEO Lt.Col. Deepak Kumar said that the aim behind changing the rules of child adoption is to stop the “exhibition” of kids for adoption under which people have been ‘choosing’ children they wish to adopt. He said that kids are not a display material, hence from now on only one child will be brought forward to the people who wish to adopt. Adopt or leave is the criteria from now on.
Until now, couples were shown three kids from which they could choose one for adoption. But going forward with the new decision of CARA, only one child will be brought forward. There will be no “pick and choose” system and prospective parents will be required to complete the adoption formalities within 20 days.
