A program under Plan India’s social campaign, BIAAG (Because I Am A Girl), was inaugurated today at Shishvi Village by Padam Bhushan awardee, Noted Director and Chairperson of Plan India, Govind Nihlani.

Chief Superintendent of Seva Mandir, Priyanka Singh shared that 300 families of various communities live in the village of Shishvi, which is 40 km from Udaipur.  This village does not have basic facilities and faces several issues such as lack of water resources, absence of toilets in houses, improper sewerage, etc.  Seva Mandir and Plan India have come together for the amelioration of the condition of the village.

She said that other than improvement of basic facilities, the main motive of this program is to empower women and girls, who endure physical hardship right from carrying water from afar to cleaning waste; chores which girls often complete at the expense of their education.

The objective is to bring a change to the lives of these women by imparting proper education and practical skills so that they can develop their own village and earn their livelihood.

On the occasion, Govind Nihalani said that the development is the responsibility not only of the government, but also of the social organizations such as Plan India and Seva Mandir.

The program had started yesterday with the participation of 400 women who discussed various challenges to women empowerment. On the occasion, several vibrant programs were also presented.
