On 16th June, 2013, while most parts of the country were enjoying early monsoon showers, torrential downpours sent mounds of earth crashing into homes, uprooting trees and destroying buildings, especially in the hilly areas of the Uttarakhand.
Misery and uncertainty continued to plague hundreds of villages and thousands of villagers, rendering them homeless, in the interior areas of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh. More than 100,000 pilgrims bound for the Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand were affected and around 1000s feared dead.
“Devastation of this magnitude hasn’t happened in the history of last eighty years. It is time for all of us to support the government in relief operations. The employees have taken this decision to donate 1 day salary to support the relief operation and the company has also donated an equal amount.”
