It is said “Education is the key to Success”. It opens the doors of prosperity for people irrespective of their backgrounds and it expands the human mind with knowledge.
Being a responsible metal & mining company, Hindustan Zinc has a strong focus towards uplifting the communities residing near its business locations. One such initiative is ‘Yashad Sumedha Scholarship Program’ where Hindustan Zinc is sponsoring engineering degree of selected 50 students who belong to household having annual income of less than Rs 1 lakhs. In this process, Sumedha Foundation has come forward and supported Hindustan Zinc in identifying these selected 50 students who are appearing in 1st year of their Engineering degree in different Government Engineering Colleges of Rajasthan.
Hindustan Zinc organized a Yashad Sumedha Scholarship Distribution Ceremony on 23rd December, 2016 at Head Office, Udaipur. All selected 50 students where 12 of them are girls were given scholarship cheques by Senior Management of Hindustan Zinc – Amitabh Gupta – CFO, HZL, Vikas Sharma – COO Smelters, Dilip Pattanayak – HR Head, HZL and Ramakrishnan Kasinath – Chief Commercial Officer, HZL.
Hindustan Zinc will be spending Rs 10 lakhs this year where the company will be paying 75% of the annual fees of these students.
While addressing these students, Senior Management emphasized on the importance of hard-work and right attitude along with the talent while working towards the goal.
The event saw the participation of students as well as their parents who were there to motivate them. Before the event commenced, these students visited Zinc Smelter Debari to understand and gain the practical knowledge about the know-how of the industries. The students also participated in Safety Walk along with Vikas Sharma – COO, Smelters.
Pavan Kaushik – Head Corporate Communication informed “In rural areas, only 3.7% of males and a mere 1.6% of females have gone up to graduation or beyond. Hindustan Zinc has always believed as the company grows, responsibility towards the society also grows and Yashad Sumedha Scholarship is one such initiative where young minds are motivated to come forward in building the nation”.
In the past, Hindustan Zinc has sponsored the education of students through various initiaitves.
Also present were, CSR Mehta – Head Corporate Relations, HZL, Neelima Khetan – Head CSR, HZL, Rakesh Mehta – President, Sumedha Foundation and Rashmi Jain – Director, Sumedha Foundation along with patrons of Sumedha Foundation.
