International Wetlands Day activities scheduled over first three days of Feb

Udaipur is known for the lakes in and around the city. Due to the growing human population and growth of concrete infrastructure, wetlands around the lakes and other bodies are shrinking, consequently endangering the health and existence of domestic and migratory birds.

In the upcoming month, 2nd February is celebrated as International Wetlands Day. In context of the same, in order to raise awareness among students and common masses for the natural logic behind conservation of wetlands, Forest department of Udaipur along with various other institutions is organizing several activities.

Lake Conservation Festival consists of several activities within 1st to 3rd February 2013. On the occasion of International Wetlands Day, Wild Life Department, Forest Division, Udaipur along with co-organizers, Indian Environment Society, Vigyan Samiti, Vishva Prakriti Nidhi and The Talons have set a number of activities.

Program Details are as follows:

On 1st February 2013, a Workshop on Workable Projects for Environment Conservation will be organized from morning 10 till 12.30 pm at Vigyan Samiti, Ashok Nagar, Udaipur.

Later, on 2nd February 2013, Ek Shaam Jheelo ke Naam, a Nukkad Natak will be organized along with, Environment themed Kavi Sammelan and an exhibition from afternoon 4.30 till 6.30 pm at Fateh Sagar Paal (opp. the overflow gates).

The final day of the festival, 3rd February 2013, is coined as Competitions and Infotainment Activities day, with following events organized during the day:

A) Lakeside Cyclothon, starting at 8am from Chetak Circle passing through Doodh Talai to end at 9.30am at Jungle Safari. Registration for the cyclothon will start at 7.30am at the Luv-Kush Stadium. The five participants, to complete the cyclothon within the determined time, will be selected through a lucky draw and awarded.

B) Nature Photography, after registration at 7.30am, the event covers whole of lakeside of the city from Chetak Circle till Jungle Safari. At 1pm all the participants shall conclude at Jungle Safari.

C) Lakeside Nature Picture-Poster making, is organized for school and university students from 8.30am till 10am at Jungle Safari, near Kalka Mata Nursery behind Pichhola.

D) Wetland Nature Wisdom Quiz will also be organized for school and university students from 8.30am till 10am at Jungle Safari.

E) For the more energetic ones, a Lakeside Treasure Hunt is scheduled from 8.30am till 10.30am. The event however, restricted only to the students of schools and universities will be organized at Jungle Safari.

The winners of all the activities and competitions will be awarded with a free trip to beautiful natural wetland habitat of many birds. The chosen winners will relish this precious opportunity to witness beautiful variety of birds from 1pm till 7pm on Feb 3.
