Members of Jheel Hiteshi Nagrik Manch organized ‘Shramdaan’ at Shakkar Ki Naya Ghat, near Jatwadi, as a part of their weekly lake cleanliness drive.

According to Haji Sardar Mohd. of the Jheel Hiteshi Nagrik Manch, “Around 100 kg of waste was taken out of the lake.”

It was informed that even during ‘Shramdaan’, because of stinking smell, many of the volunteers felt sick and took rest for a while. This only indicates the gravity of the situation, where people are polluting their lakes knowingly.

“The stuff that should be kept away from lake is sort of first things that people are dumping in the lakes”, as informed by one of the volunteer.

It was suggested that Udaipur administration should follow the approach that Bhopal is implementing and should paste posters of people who pollute the lake. Also, CCTVs should be installed on the lake sides.
