May 26, 2025 - Under Hindustan Zinc Limited’s flagship education initiative Shiksha Sambal, more than 1,500 students from government schools in six districts — Udaipur, Salumber, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Ajmer — are enthusiastically participating in summer training camps - both residential and non-residential. These camps aim at the holistic development of students by integrating subjects like Science, Math and English with physical education, sports, intellectual pursuits and cultural activities.

The 8th Residential Summer Camp, organised by Hindustan Zinc in collaboration with Vidya Bhawan Society, Udaipur, was  inaugurated at the Vidya Bhawan Auditorium. This residential camp commenced on May 20 and will run until June 18 with more than 300 students seeking guidance for Grades 8, 10 and 12. Three residential camps in Udaipur are accommodating around 50 students from Grade 8, 200 from Grade 10;  and 50 Science stream students from Grade 12 from all the locations.

Students newly enrolled in Grades 8, 10 and 12 are being taught by expert teachers in ways that make learning engaging and enjoyable.

There are 1,200 students attending non-residential camps at six locations - Chittorgarh, Dariba, Debari, Ajmer, Agucha and Zawar.

The inauguration event at Vidya Bhawan Auditorium was attended by Additional District Education Officer Murlidhar Chaubisa, Hindustan Zinc and Vedanta’s Head of CSR Anupam Nidhi, CEO of Vidya Bhawan Society Rajendra Bhatt, Head of Vidya Bhawan Education Resource Centre Subhash Sharma, Camp Coordinator Dr Kamini Upadhyay, Kamal Mahendru, members of the Executive Committee, and board members of Vidya Bhawan Society.

Therefore, instead of spending their summer vacations only travelling or playing, for the first time, children find themselves staying away from home for an entire month — engaged in a routine of discipline, studies, sports and personality development. The smiles and confidence on the faces of the children from Zawar, Chittorgarh, Agucha, Dariba, Debari, Salumber and Kayad prove that they are not only enjoying their studies but also receiving parental-like care and guidance from their mentors.

This year, the residential camp has introduced digital classrooms, audio-visual materials, hands-on activities, clay modelling, pottery, creative projects using waste materials and emerging technologies such as robotics.

Launched nine years ago as a pilot project, the growing scale and success of the residential camp are evident. The uniqueness of this programme lies in its innovative teaching methods and consistent focus on improving academic outcomes. Hindustan Zinc has continuously taken proactive steps to ensure the all-round development of rural children. In addition to education, these summer camps are also working toward skill development, behavioural enhancement and overall personality improvement through sports and cultural programmes.

For more than 20 years, the Shiksha Sambal programme has supported students facing a lack of teaching resources in key subjects. As part of this initiative, Hindustan Zinc ensures the availability of qualified subject teachers in Science, Math and English in government schools where teaching positions are vacant, catering to students from Grades 6 to 12.
