Under a road safety awareness project recommended by the District Collector of Udaipur, Muskaan foundation for road safety in collaboration with the Transport Department, Udaipur organized a Life Saving and Road Safety Workshop for teachers of selected schools of Udaipur.

The workshop was organized in Regional Transport Office, Udaipur where teachers from 12 different schools participated in the program. The workshop was organized in continuation of the project to include Road Safety as a co-scholastic activity in the schools. To discuss the developments for the successful execution of the project, a Principal’s Meet was also held prior to the workshop.

The workshop commenced with an eye opener session by Dr. (Prof) Vijaylaxmi Chouhan on the psychology of a normal road user behavior. Dr. Chouhan elaborated and explored the need of including the sensitive issue of road safety as an additional subject in today’s education system. She emphasized, “As we inculcate etiquette right from childhood, in similar way road etiquette and road culture is required to be developed right from the beginning, which is a moral responsibility of parents and teachers.”

The Chief Coordinator of Muskaan, Nisha Bagga discussed about the recent developments and proposed activities of the project. Under this project comprehensive sessions on road safety have already been conducted for auto/bus drivers and teachers of the schools. Interactive sessions on the topic are also proposed with the parents of the students. Road Safety Clubs have been formed in each school that will take care of the successful implementation of the Road Safety Activities in their school for the entire session. Traffic Police of Udaipur will also co-operate for the success of this mission. The Traffic Police will install warning message boards at the main gate of each school for students and parents to obey the traffic rules. Police will also run surprise enforcement campaigns for auto/bus drivers and students.

The workshop concluded with a session on Life Saving Techniques demonstrated by Dr. Sandeep Sharma and his team from RNT Medical College, Udaipur. The team demonstrated the technique of CPR on mannequin which is very vital to save life of a victim not breathing due to trauma. Teachers also exercised the technique applying practically on manikin.

The premier educational institutions of Udaipur including Maharana Mewar Public School, St. Mathews, Central Academy, Alok School, St. Anthony, St. Teresa, St. Paul’s, Rockwood School and Balaji Polytechnic are participating in this project.
