Nature Experts Raise Awareness on World Wetlands Day
Environmental experts and nature enthusiasts organised a wetland conservation awareness walk at Menar Ramsar Site highlighting pollution concerns
Udaipur, Feb 2, 2026 - On Sunday (February 2), the eve of World Wetlands Day, environmental experts organised a wetland conservation awareness and action walk in Menar Ramsar Site and nearby villages. They observed the ponds in Menar, Batheda Khurd and Batheda Kala, expressing concern over sewage water flowing into the ponds.
Several Nature enthusiasts participated in the Nature walk, including retired forest officer Nihal Chand Jain, bird expert Vinay Dave, veterinarian Narayan Singh and retired forest officer Dalpat Singh. During the walk, they urged villagers to maintain cleanliness around the ponds and prevent waste from entering the water.
Additionally, in Udaipur, wetland expert Dr Anil Mehta said that it is a matter of pride that Udaipur has been designated as a Ramsar Wetland City under the UN Ramsar Convention. He highlighted that the arrangement of lakes, ghats and temples in Udaipur has historically established them as sacred centres for prayer and worship. However, increasing commercialisation, westernised tourism practices and pollution have desecrated and degraded these water bodies.
On this occasion, notable figures including Tejshankar Paliwal, Nandkishore Sharma, and educationist Kushal Rawal shared their views and suggestions for the revival and preservation of Udaipur’s lakes.
A resolution was taken to restore the social, cultural, environmental and spiritual sanctity of the city’s lake system.
