With the help of district administration, local non-government organization Gayatri Seva Sansthan has started an awareness campaign for beggars. The motive is to convince them to leave begging and opt for legitimate occupation.

With the help of district administration, local non-government organization Gayatri Seva Sansthan has started an awareness campaign for beggars. The motive is to convince them to leave begging and opt for legitimate occupation.

Joint Director of the organization, Shailendra Pandya informed, “Several teams of volunteers which has 5 members in each team spread in the following areas, Hiran Magri sector-4, Avri Mata Slum Colony, Sai Baba Mandir Sector-6 and Reti Stand. The team is giving counseling to beggars and recording their details etc.”

Volunteers stand with banners and posters trying to spread awareness among locals asking them not to encourage begging.

The volunteers met around 31 beggars and gave counseling about social justice and how they can connect to the mainstream society.

Program coordinator Mukesh Salvi informed, “A meeting will be held on 11th March where all NGOs involved in this program will present the details to Social Justice and Empowerment Department’s Deputy Director Mandhata Singh. Thereafter, a strategy will be made for further action.”
