Bohras celebrate Islamic New Year
The Dawoodi Bohra community of Udaipur celebrated the New Year Eve tonight as the Islamic New Year 1435 Hijri is going to start from November 4th 2013. The first month of the Islamic year is Muharram.
The Dawoodi Bohra community of Udaipur celebrated the New Year Eve tonight as the Islamic New Year 1435 Hijri is going to start from November 4th 2013. The first month of the Islamic year is Muharram.
Udaipur community of bohras celebrated the occasion with much joy and devotion. After offering prayers in the evening, people from the community visited relatives and friends to exchange New Year greetings and request each other to remember in prayers.
A special dinner is also organized where whole family and close relatives sit together in a circle. More than a dozen delicious and well decorated dishes is served on the big plate, called thaal. The tradition of sitting together to have food is a forte of the community.
Month of Muharram has both cultural and religious significance. Series of religious events will start from 2nd Muharram and will continue till 10th day of the month known as Ashura.
