It was the 4th of June when Dawoodi Bohra across the world celebrated the divine festival of Eid ul Fitr,a a day after the Holy month of Ramadan.  Dawoodi Bohras of Udaipur, as scattered as they are across Canada, came together in Toronto to celebrate Eid ul Fitr.

They came dressed in their best – colourful smart and sharp. They came for the taste of home, for the spirit of home that they left behind across the seven seas. And their home of course is Udaipur. The beautiful and chaotic city which ties them together, brings them together in times of joy and sorrow.

This time it was the joyous occasion of Eid ul Fitr, and Dawoodi Bohras from Udaipur gathered at a banquet hall on Sunday, June 9, 2019 for an afternoon of fun and festivities. They all live in and around Toronto, Canada, and some of them travelled long distance to be part of the celebration. It is was the common bond – Udaipur – more than anything else that pulled them together.

With their busy lives they don’t get to meet each other very often, and in recent years many new immigrants have come to join a growing community. They were happy to see old friends and make new acquaintances.  It surely was an amazing experience for the children as this was first time they got to understand the bonding of Eid and that of Udaipur.

The event was filled with laughter and music, and of course, good food. This was the first time Udaipur Bohras have celebrated Eid together in Toronto, thanks to Shama Shah and Mehjabeen Qutub who took the initiative and organized the event. Everyone had a great time and promised to repeat this next year.
