Udaipur, March 19, 2026: Dawoodi Bohras worldwide celebrated the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, March 19. Although Eid celebrations among the Dawoodi Bohra community in the Gulf nations were muted because of the ongoing West Asia conflict, in Udaipur there was some festive cheer among people even as they stood in solidarity with people in the countries impacted by the war.

On this auspicious occasion, the day began with Eid prayers in Bohra-dominated areas of the city - such as Bohrawadi, Kharol Colony, Chamanpura, Fatehpura and Khanjipeer. Eid prayers were performed at 7:00 am in the various community mosques of Rasulpara, Wajehpura, Moiyadpura, Chamanpura, Kharol Colony, Pulla and Khanpura, which included special prayers for peace, harmony and prosperity of the nation, according to Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat (DBJ) spokesperson Mansoor Ali Orawala.

DBJ Secretary Firoz Hussain Tinwala informed that the Eid prayers were led by respected community members at different locations: Mudassar Ali Zariwala in Wajehpura, Aqib Ali in Rasulpara, Sajjad Hussain in Kharol Colony, Shabbir Hussain Readymadewala in Chamanpura, Anees Hitawala in Khanpura and Hatim Ali Chachuliya in Pulla.

After the prayers, people exchanged Eid greetings and shared traditional sweets like sevaiyan and sheer khurma

The Dawoodi Bohra community traditionally observes Islamic festivals based on a pre-calculated lunar (Fatemi) calendar, unlike other Muslim groups in India who rely on physical moon sighting. This year, the non-Bohra Muslim community will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday (March 21). The crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Shawwal was not sighted in India on Thursday. Following this, clerics have announced that Eid-ul-Fitr in the country will be celebrated on Saturday.
