Each day at the ongoing Shilpgram Festival at Shilpgram, Udaipur gives a different picture to the audience.

Today, being the Goa day at the festival, we got to see glimpses of the beautiful state of Goa in our very own backyard.

A unique performance preceded the inauguration of the Goa dayShabdved a member of the audience from Maharashtra, was blindfolded and made to search for a coconut, which was hidden in the audience. He followed the sounds of drum beats, which directed him to move to his left or right, or go straight.  He finally managed to get there!

Following this, the Director of the Goa Cultural Zone, Shri Prasad Lolaikar and Directors of WZCC, Furqaan Shaikh and Shailendra Dashora inaugurated the Goa day and set the tone for a day full of fresh cultural extravaganza.

As in Mahrashtra Day, the Goa Day events were also preceded by prayers to Lord Ganesh.

We would like to appreciate that a Goan artist who had visited Shilpgram as a performer a few years back, Kanta Gaode, was the chief Director and Co-ordinator for all the performances on Goa day this time.

The Deeputsav dance, by a group of girls holding lighted candles in their hand, set the tone for the other events to follow.

The Divli dance performed by a group of men with lighted lamps on their heads amazed the audience as various stunts were performed during the course of the dance.

Dekhani dance by a group of ladies was followed by the Goah dance and the Khumbhi dance performed by members of the Goan Christian community.

Goan singer Shalini, presented a traditional Goan song, putting the audience in a hypnotic disposition, before a thunderous applause at the end of the performance.

The Goan day events ended with a Pom Pom type of dance, the Jaagor.

This was followed by the Bahurupiya (Fancy Dress) performed by Sikander Abbas & Hameed Khan playing Naarad Muni and Lord Shiva respectively.

Jodhpuri artists performed the Kalbleliya dance to the melodious ‘Kaaliyo kud padyo mela ma’ followed by the Mayur dance by artists from Mathura.
