After the celebrations of Janmashtami, it’s time for Lord Krishna to swing in the lakes and ponds of Udaipur. On the Eleventh day of Bhadrapad month of Hindu calendar Yashoda (Mother of Lord Krishna) worshiped Sun (known as Suraj Pujan). On this day Lord Krishna was given a bath in River Yamuna. In the same manner we take his idols to the nearby water body for a bath and were given a swing over it.
The idols from the temples of Udaipur were taken in a procession. All the temples of the city get divided into different areas according to the proximity of the water body. The main places that were over packed are Maa Satiya and Gangaur Ghat. These processions were preceded by the Akhadas of the city.
Leading the march to Gangaur Ghat was Lakshman Singh Pehelwan Akhada. Various stunts were performed by them in order to please God. People also presented various performances in the procession including dances, songs, and stunts. Fruits, sweets and holy water were distributed in the form of Prasad.
With today’s young generation avoiding religious events, festivals like these are still celebrated with full enthusiasm and devotion to God. Hoping that the culture of the country and its colorful festivals remain secured in the future.
