Shopping on the auspicious day of Dhanteras is considered very propitious. Today, from the morning itself, Udaipurites engaged themselves in rigorous shopping, specifically of jewels, utensils, vehicles etc. On the occasion, our reporters tried to get the feel of the market.

A lot of people purchase gold or silver today. Even after the rising prices of the shining metal, people bought all kind of gold and silver jewelry, utensils, statues and coins. There are almost 700 Jewelry shops in Udaipur which suggest the interest of Udaipurites in gold. Shopkeepers said that families invested mostly in Gold and Silver Coins as they feel that it is good to invest in coins which they can convert into jewelry anytime later.

Market of Utensils also remained hot during the whole day as shopkeepers piled a huge stock of all kind of items. Utensils of all designer shapes, coulurs and structures and made of all kind of materials such as brass, silver and steel were sold in good numbers; specifically steel utensils were sold a lot because of its low cost. Our Journos visited Gautam Steel Center, Hathipol and 5-star Household Shop for the insight and found that the business is great today though inflation made some dents. They told about 10-20% increase in the prices as compared to last year.

This is the festival of Diwali so it was obvious that the garments would be the best sellers and Ladies garment tops the list. Shopkeepers said girls usually prefer light English colours while Ladies prefer dark colors with heavy borders. Latest fashion of net and velvet in double shades and contrasts is being sold the most. In case of suits also, a wide variety is available which includes Straight pattern, cut Patiala, Flary, evergreen anarkali etc with heavy duppatas. Riddhi Siddhi Sarees, Dhan Mandi divulged their cost of sarees range from Rs 1500 till Rs 25000 while Ramakrishna, Bapu bazaar said that their suits range from Rs 3000 to Rs 10000.

Lastly, automobiles were sold in plenty today. People had their vehicles already booked in advance to take the delivery according to moohrat today. A long queue for the puja at Bohra Ganesh temple was enough to suggest the huge sell of cars.
