Gangaur – the traditional festival of Mewar was celebrated on 22nd March amidst devotion and joy. Hundreds and thousands of devotees gathered at Gangaur Ghat to witness the annual fiesta.

Gangaur also attracts a large number of foreign tourists who were enthralled with this, one of the most vibrant and eventful celebrations of Mewar.

Colorfully dressed women flocked to the Gangaur Ghat at Lake Pichola holding decorated idol of Goddess Gauri, which is also known as Gangaur. The festival is considered highly significant in several local Hindu communities of Udaipur.

Organized by district administration in association with Tourism Department of Udaipur, the procession of Gangaur started from 4 PM and continued till late in the evening. The Rajmali Samaj’s Gangaur was awarded the best, followed by Kahar Bhoi and Marwari Gacha.

The climax of the event was when hundreds of Gangaur reached at Ghat for the final ritual which also includes the dipping of idols through the adorned Gangaur Boat.

Many cultural programs took place at Ghat to entertain the crowd. A special program for foreign tourists’ couples will be held today as the part of three day celebration of Gangaur.
